Philly Union Boss Says City Illegally Gave 5,500 Raises

Law360, Philadelphia (December 5, 2012, 2:41 PM EST) -- A Philadelphia union boss filed a suit in Pennsylvania court Tuesday challenging raises given to 5,500 city employees, himself included, claiming that the awards were illegally made without review by the city’s Civil Service Commission.

Michael Walsh, the head of a union representing supervisors across a number of Philadelphia departments and agencies, claims that a package of pay raises for 5,500 workers announced by Mayor Michael Nutter in September was implemented despite union concerns and before a final hearing by the commission.
