Ex-Mutual Benefits Exec Deemed Mentally Fit For Trial

Law360, Los Angeles (December 5, 2012, 6:26 PM EST) -- A Florida federal judge on Tuesday found a former Mutual Benefits Corp. executive mentally competent to stand trial on charges that he ran an $837 million scam that defrauded investors by buying insurance policies from the terminally ill and seniors.

The one-page order by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Scola Jr. allows prosecutors to go forward with their case against Steven Steiner, who faces charges of fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud, money laundering and obstruction of justice.
