FERC OKs Fracking Buffer Zone Around Pa. Gas Facility

Law360, New York (December 6, 2012, 7:46 PM EST) -- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has given Dominion Transmission Inc. the green light to establish a 2,000-foot buffer zone around a natural gas storage facility in the Sabinsville Pool in Tioga County, Pa., to protect it from hydrofracking in the Marcellus Shale.

In a Nov. 30 order, FERC said the buffer zone is needed to ensure the integrity of the Sabinsville Pool and the reliability of storage service to the benefit of all of Dominion’s customers and is especially important in areas, such as Tioga County,...
