Calif. Courts May Face New Round Of Cuts, Official Warns

Law360, San Diego (December 6, 2012, 6:17 PM EST) -- The governor of California is looking to take away an additional $200 million from the state trial courts to shore up the state budget, a court official warned Wednesday, saying the action would have a “disastrous impact” on the justice system.

Judge Steven Jahr, California’s director of the courts, sent a memo to judges and court staff that said the state Department of Finance was proposing for Gov. Jerry Brown to sweep $200 million that had been promised to the courts for the next fiscal year,...
