European Parliament Sets Airline Emissions Cap

Law360, New York (November 13, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Parliament has voted to impose a cap on emissions from airplanes, backing a European Commission initiative and pushing it even farther by lowering the limit.

With a large majority of member states in favor, the parliament on Monday approved the EC's proposed emission trading scheme in an effort to curb airline pollution, which flew up by 7.5% between 2003 and 2004 and by 87% since 1990.
