EU Regulators Take Deeper Look At Munksjo-Ahlstrom Merger

Law360, New York (December 7, 2012, 3:33 PM EST) -- The European Union Competition Commission launched an in-depth investigation of the proposed merger between Finland's Ahlstrom Corp. and Sweden's Munksjo AB, backed by private equity firm EQT III Ltd., to ensure the paper-makers' alliance won't harm competitors, the commission announced Friday.

After an initial investigation, the Commission wants to take a deeper look at the merger, which would combine the Scandinavian heavyweights into a new entity, "NewCo," through a series of transactions.
