Senate Panel Considers Expanding ADA Protections

Law360, New York (November 15, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A former Wal-Mart pharmacist urged a Senate panel Thursday to push through pending legislation designed to expand the legal protections of the 17-year-old Americans with Disabilities Act.

In testimony before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Stephen Orr said he was fired from his job for taking the lunch breaks necessary to manage his diabetes, and that courts later tossed his discrimination claim, saying he was not considered disabled under the ADA.
