New CMS Office Warned To Avoid Paying Twice For Services

Law360, New York (December 18, 2012, 4:04 PM EST) -- The office created by the Affordable Care Act to test payment and health care delivery reforms must work to eliminate unnecessary duplication and ensure Medicare is not paying twice for the same services, a government audit found Monday.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, which under the ACA receives $10 billion in funding every 10 years, is charged with testing new methods to deliver and pay for care, such as accountable care organizations. It currently is implementing 17 such models.
