Chemicals Maker Wins $28M Patent Suit Against Chinese Petro Company

Law360, New York (September 13, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- German chemical company Celanese Corp. on Tuesday was awarded $28 million by a Taiwanese court in a chemical patent infringement lawsuit against the mammoth China Petrochemical Development Corp.

The Kaohsiung District Court in Taiwan ruled the Taipei-based oil and gas conglomerate had infringed on Celanese's acetic acid patents and awarded damages for infringing products between 1995 and 1999, Celanese said. Celanese sued China Petrochemical over the biochemical component in February 2001.
