PTO Reveals '07 Numbers, Touts Improvements

Law360 (November 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Examiners at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office completed 362,227 patent applications and 323,527 trademark applications in fiscal year 2007, the largest number ever, according to the PTO's annual performance and accountability report.

The report, released Thursday, further disclosed that examiner decisions were upheld by the PTO's patent appeals board 69% of the time, up from 51% two years ago. Meanwhile, quality compliance was at 96.5%, the best result in a quarter century, the report said.
