EU Regulator To Probe Syniverse's $694M Mach Acquisition

Law360, New York (December 20, 2012, 2:51 PM EST) -- The European Commission on Thursday launched an in-depth probe into mobile communications company Syniverse Technologies Inc.’s €550 million ($693.5 million) acquisition of Luxembourg-based telecommunications firm Mach, citing concerns of decreased competition in various roaming technology markets.

The merger will create the largest data clearing house for settling the usage records of roaming phone calls, according to the regulator. Mobile operators use these services to calculate the wholesale payments they make to each other for subscribers’ roaming, which are ultimately incorporated in customers' phone bills.
