DOI Stresses Pipeline Construction In Oil Reserve Review

Law360, New York (December 20, 2012, 8:11 PM EST) -- The Interior Department on Wednesday unveiled its environmental review for a plan to lease more than half of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, confirming that it will allow construction of oil and natural gas pipelines on the nearly 12 million acres open for development.

In a memo to the Bureau of Land Management released with the review, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said the “preferred alternative” for development of the reserve would accommodate pipelines that transport oil and gas from drilling in Alaska’s Beaufort and Chukchi...
