17 States, DC Earn Nod On State-Run Health Policy Exchanges

Law360, New York (January 3, 2013, 4:48 PM EST) -- Seventeen states and the District of Columbia have won conditional approval to operate state-based health insurance exchanges in 2014, and two states have been approved to co-run their exchanges with the federal government, federal health officials announced Thursday.

Each state that want to run its own insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act had to submit a blueprint to the Department of Health and Human Services by mid-December, and a decision from the secretary was due Tuesday.
