Antitrust Group Prods FTC To Examine $7B ConAgra Merger

Law360, New York (January 4, 2013, 3:58 PM EST) -- ConAgra Foods Inc.'s $6.8 billion buyout of Ralcorp Holdings Inc. could impede competition in the packaged foods industry and warrants closer inspection by the Federal Trade Commission, an antitrust watchdog told the regulator Thursday.

The American Antitrust Institute said in a letter to the FTC that the recently announced acquisition raises concerns regarding the state of the packaged foods market should the deal go through, specifically that the deal would remove Ralcorp as a competitive threat to ConAgra in the private label market.
