Mass Gov. Proposes Overhaul To Compounding Oversight

Law360, New York (January 4, 2013, 8:08 PM EST) -- Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick introduced legislation on Friday that would allow regulators to fine pharmacies and deliver other reforms in the wake of a deadly nationwide meningitis outbreak linked to the now-bankrupt New England Compounding Center.

The NECC, which declared bankruptcy in December, is located in Framingham, Mass. The outbreak linked to the pharmacy has killed 39 people and sickened 656 in 19 states, though no illnesses have been reported in Massachusetts, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
