Colo. To Require Water Tests Near Fracked Wells

Law360, New York (January 8, 2013, 7:59 PM EST) -- Colorado’s oil and gas regulator on Monday approved rules requiring companies that use hydraulic fracturing to test water wells near drilling sites for contamination before and, for the first time ever, after drilling operations.

The move makes Colorado the first state to require operators to take post-drilling water well samples and the third state to adopt a mandatory groundwater sampling program.
