Suspended Pa. Justice Asks High Court To Halt Prosecution

Law360, Philadelphia (January 9, 2013, 5:55 PM EST) -- Suspended Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin asked her high court colleagues Monday to prevent prosecutors from pursuing pending corruption charges alleging she used state-funded staff for political work on grounds that the case violates the state constitution.

In a petition for extraordinary relief filed with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Justice Melvin said the corruption charges lodged against her in 2012 infringe on the constitutionally protected powers of the judiciary to police itself.
