White House Asks ITC To Review Duty-Free Waivers

Law360, New York (January 11, 2013, 6:51 PM EST) -- The White House has asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to investigate whether domestic producers would be harmed if certain products from India, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, Ecuador, Russia and Georgia receive duty-free treatment under the Generalized System of Preferences.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk sent a letter on Jan. 8 to the ITC as part of an annual review of the GSP program, which waives duties on thousand of goods imported from developing countries. The ITC has been asked to probe the effect waiving import duties...
