High Court To Take On Death Benefits Preemption Question

Law360, New York (January 11, 2013, 7:29 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Friday to weigh in on a lawsuit that could clarify whether federal law or state law dictates who should receive death benefits under Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance policies.

The decision comes about a month after U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. urged the high court to weigh the case, even though he agreed with the Virginia Supreme Court's January 2012 decision in the case.
