Blocked UPS-TNT Deal Shows EU Not Afraid To Get Tough

Law360, New York (January 14, 2013, 7:43 PM EST) -- UPS Inc.'s $6.8 billion bid for TNT Express NV became the latest casualty of the European Commission's merger enforcement Monday, proving the antitrust watchdog is willing to flex its muscles on deals it thinks will block competition despite proffered divestitures.

The European Union antitrust enforcer raised concerns that the merger would hinder competition in the already-concentrated market for small-parcel express delivery services.
