Obama Pushes For Assault Weapon Ban, Ammo Limits

Law360, New York (January 16, 2013, 5:58 PM EST) -- President Barack Obama unveiled a package of executive actions and proposed legislation on Wednesday that aims to curb gun violence in the U.S., including bans on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

The president called on Congress to strengthen a 1994 ban on assault weapons, which lawmakers allowed to expire in 2004; cap magazine capacity at 10 rounds; and outlaw the possession of armor-piercing bullets. He also wants lawmakers to open up access to mental health services and to require criminal background checks on all gun...
