Reps. Revive ACA Public Insurance Option With New Bill

Law360, New York (January 16, 2013, 7:22 PM EST) -- A group of Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday put forward a bill to amend the Affordable Care Act to implement a government-run health insurance plan, saying that such an option would save taxpayers more than $100 billion over the next 10 years.

The bill in the House of Representatives, H.R. 261, the Public Option Deficit Reduction Act, seeks to amend the sweeping health care reform law to allow for a so-called public option, providing consumers with the option of purchasing a government-backed health insurance policy.
