House Energy Committee Questions Post-Fukushima Regs

Law360, New York (January 16, 2013, 8:22 PM EST) -- The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee on Tuesday urged the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to take its time issuing new regulations in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, citing concerns that the current rulemaking process could create unnecessary regulatory burdens for the nuclear industry.

The Republican-controlled committee repeated concerns it had raised in July that the NRC had departed from using rigorous technical and cost-based analysis as it took regulatory action in response to the March 2011 disaster at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant....
