Deal Moots Avid IP Appeal, Despite 'Side Bet,' Fed. Circ. Says

Law360, New York (January 17, 2013, 5:47 PM EST) -- Avid Identification Systems Inc.'s chance to reduce its $6.5 million settlement payment in a patent suit amounted to a "side bet" that didn't translate to enough of a controversy to save Avid's appeal from being dismissed for mootness, the Federal Circuit ruled Thursday.
