ITC To Probe Additions To Duty-Free Program

Law360, New York (January 18, 2013, 2:31 PM EST) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission said Friday it had begun investigating the domestic impact of allowing certain products from countries like Thailand, Indonesia and Brazil to receive duty-free treatment under proposed modifications to the Generalized System of Preferences.

The federal trade agency is requesting public input on the likely impact that classifying the additional products as GSP-eligible would have on U.S. consumers and industries. The GSP program, which is reviewed annually, waives duties on thousand of goods imported from developing countries
