Reinsurers Can't Recoup Coverage Fees From Law Firm

Law360, New York (January 22, 2013, 2:02 PM EST) -- A federal judge said Friday that Salt Lake City-based law firm Nelson Chipman & Burt doesn't have to reimburse a group of reinsurers, including National Indemnity Co. and Lloyd's of London, for legal fees incurred in litigation over a softball tournament injury.

The firm was hired by U.S. Fidelity & Guarantee Co. to represent the U.S. Sports Specialty Association in the underlying case. After a trial loss, the reinsurers were forced to pay a $4.8 million settlement, and they sued the firm for legal malpractice. USF&G...
