Akin Gump Firing Not Due To Race, 2nd Circ. Says

Law360, New York (January 24, 2013, 4:31 PM EST) -- The Second Circuit ruled Thursday that Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP didn't violate federal or state civil rights laws by firing a black investment lawyer in the wake of the financial crisis.

The appeals court affirmed U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff's previous ruling that the firm had nondiscriminatory reasons for terminating Tameka Simmons, a former New York associate in the firm's investment funds practice.
