Southern Co. Unit Resolves Rate Hike Row Over $3B Plant

Law360, New York (January 24, 2013, 7:37 PM EST) -- The Mississippi Public Service Commission and a Southern Co. unit resolved their dispute Thursday over the unit's proposed rate hike to support its construction of a $3 billion coal gasification plant, in a settlement that caps the power company’s recovery from customers to $2.4 billion.

According to settlement terms posted by the commission, Mississippi Power can file within 30 days of the settlement’s approval Thursday to seek up to $172 million in 2013 through rate hikes from its customers. The 582-megawatt integrated gasification combined cycle plant...
