Shell To Help Ukraine Tap Shale Gas Reserves

Law360, New York (January 25, 2013, 4:55 PM EST) -- Royal Dutch Shell PLC locked up another major natural gas contract in Ukraine on Thursday, when it signed a 50-year pact with the former Soviet nation to develop a prolific shale play that will slash Ukraine’s dependence on Russian fuel.

On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, representatives from Shell Exploration and Production Ukraine Investments (IV) BV, a unit of Ukraine’s state-owned NAK Nadra Ukrayny, and the Ukrainian government inked a 50-50 production-sharing agreement that will see them jointly tackle the Yuzivska area...
