Xstrata Projects $5.2B Cost For Peru Copper Mine

Law360, New York (January 25, 2013, 2:14 PM EST) -- A unit of Anglo-Swiss mining giant Xstrata PLC announced a $5.2 billion project cost estimate Friday for the gargantuan Las Bambas copper development in southern Peru and confirmed plans to begin operations at the mine in 2015.

Xstrata Copper said a secondary review of planned expenditures for the Las Bambas project confirmed the miner's initial project cost projections from July. The mine is under construction and is expected to produce 400,000 tons of copper per year beginning in 2015.
