WTO To Probe Argentine Import Restrictions

Law360, New York (January 28, 2013, 12:23 PM EST) -- The World Trade Organization launched a formal investigation Monday into accusations from the U.S., the European Union and Japan that Argentina's import licensing policies unfairly restrict access to the country's market.

The world body established a dispute resolution panel to deal with complaints, filed by the three trading partners last year, that the Argentine system violated WTO rules. The decision means direct talks between sides have failed to resolve the issue.
