European Device Group Pushes For Changes To New EU Regs

Law360, New York (February 1, 2013, 8:43 PM EST) -- A group representing European medical device makers criticized the European Union's plan to change the regulation of the products on Wednesday, saying it should drop a proposal to scrutinize random devices to determine whether certification bodies are performing their duties.

The EU unveiled plans in September to widen and strengthen its regulation of medical devices in the wake of a scandal over the safety of fraudulent silicone breast implants manufactured by now-defunct French company Poly Implant Prothese.
