Packaging Co. Seeks High Court Review In Benefits Fight

Law360, New York (February 5, 2013, 4:35 PM EST) -- Packaging company Menasha Corp. has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a recent ruling that said the company owed lifetime health benefits to a group of United Steelworkers retirees and their spouses, saying the decision conflicted with the high court's definition of “employee.”

In a petition for writ of certiorari filed on Jan. 25, Wisconsin-based Menasha said the August ruling by the Sixth Circuit — that a bargaining agreement that only explicitly mentioned “employees” nonetheless extended benefits to retirees and spouses as well — “completely...
