EU Lifts US Meat Import Restrictions Ahead Of Trade Talks

Law360, New York (February 4, 2013, 3:14 PM EST) -- The European Union's executive body on Monday lifted restrictions on certain U.S. meat imports ahead of discussions between the EU's top trade official and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk that are planned for Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

The European Commission authorized the import of live pigs for breeding and production from the U.S. and also greenlighted the use of lactic acid for cleaning beef carcasses, a widely used procedure employed by many U.S. producers. Both measures are set to take effect on Feb. 25.
