Genetically Modified Food Labels Await Wash. Vote

Law360, New York (February 4, 2013, 5:44 PM EST) -- The state of Washington certified an initiative to require the labeling of genetically modified food on Thursday, likely placing the measure before voters in November, the same day New Mexico lawmakers rejected similar legislation.

Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman certified Initiative 522, also known as the People's Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act. The measure would mandate that companies label vegetables, seeds and processed food they produce using genetic engineering.
