SEC Signals Increase In PE Enforcement Actions

Law360, New York (February 8, 2013, 1:36 PM EST) -- On Jan. 23, 2013, Bruce Karpati, chief of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Enforcement Division's Asset Management Unit ("AMU"), offered remarks at the Private Equity International Conference in New York.[1] During his address, Karpati touched on (1) the focus of the AMU on the private equity space; (2) the likely increase in private equity enforcement actions; (3) the AMU’s areas of focus in the private equity industry; and (4) steps private equity firms can take to reduce the risk of an SEC inquiry.
