Obama Picks REI Chief To Head Interior

Law360, New York (February 6, 2013, 12:58 PM EST) -- President Barack Obama has tapped Sally Jewell, CEO of Recreational Equipment Inc. and a noted conservationist, to become secretary of the Interior Department, White House officials said Wednesday.

If confirmed, Jewell will replace Secretary Ken Salazar, who said last month that he would step down after a four-year term marked by clashes with oil and natural gas producers.

A former petroleum engineer and commercial banker, Jewell is the first woman Obama has chosen for his new cabinet. She joined REI, the outdoor goods retailer, in 2005....
