Lawmakers Unveil Bill To Repeal Medicare Doctor Pay Rate

Law360, New York (February 6, 2013, 5:57 PM EST) -- A bipartisan pair of House representatives introduced legislation Wednesday to repeal the sustainable growth rate meant to restrict Medicare spending on physician payments, replacing it with multiple payment methods from which doctors can choose.

The bill, introduced by Reps. Allyson Schwartz, D-Pa., and Joe Heck, R-Nev., would repeal the sustainable growth rate, or SGR; provide for annual increases in physician payments over the next four years; increase payments for primary care; create a number of new payment methods from which physicians can choose; and stabilize payment...
