Texas Atty Groups Want Expedited Trials Made Voluntary

Law360, Dallas (February 8, 2013, 5:43 PM EST) -- In a rare show of unity, advocacy groups for the plaintiff and defense bars in Texas have urged the state Supreme Court to change its proposed rule to expedite trials for low-dollar lawsuits to make the process voluntary rather than mandatory.

The Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the state chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates said in letters to the high court that imposing a mandatory expedited process, which includes limited discovery and earlier trial settings for disputes over $100,000 or less, would pigeonhole...
