Catholic Leaders Reject ACA Contraceptive Compromise

Law360, New York (February 7, 2013, 7:48 PM EST) -- A group of U.S. Catholic leaders urged the Obama administration Thursday to go back to the drawing board on its proposed exemptions to the Affordable Care Act contraception mandate, saying a recent revision to the rule still fell short of addressing their concerns.

According to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Feb. 1 “accommodation” proposal, which shifts the burden of contraceptive coverage from nonprofit religious organizations to insurers or plan administrators, had shown “some movement” toward the church's...
