Sequester Endangers Food Safety Inspections, Obama Says

Law360, New York (February 11, 2013, 7:09 PM EST) -- The White House warned Friday that food safety is poised to be one of the areas hardest-hit by the looming sequester, with thousands of inspections for produce and other food susceptible to pathogens on the chopping block.

If Congress fails to find $1.2 trillion in budget cuts on its own by March 1, the Budget Control Act of 2011 will go into effect, imposing blunt, across-the-board cuts of approximately 8 percent on federal spending.
