Ex-Fla. GOP Chairman Gets 18 Months For Money Laundering

Law360, Miami (March 27, 2013, 3:40 PM EDT) -- A Florida state judge on Wednesday sentenced Jim Greer, the former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, to 18 months in prison for skimming nearly $200,000 from party donations through a shell company.

Judge Marc Lubet of Florida's Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Orlando agreed to a rare downward departure from the sentencing guidelines because of Greer's guilty plea and his repayment of $65,000, but said the crime deserved prison time because Greer “egregiously violated a position of trust,” according to an audio recording of...
