WTO Deems Brazil's Ban On Tire Imports Illegal

Law360, New York (December 3, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- A World Trade Organization panel on Monday strengthened a previous report that sided with the European Communities, ruling that Brazil's restrictions on tire imports from across the Atlantic Ocean violate international tariff rules.

Finding that the import ban that Brazil imposed on tires coming in from Europe cannot be justified under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of 1994, the WTO Appellate Body recommended that Brazil adapt its measures so that they conform with the regulations.
