Indian Officials Greenlight $2.6B Power Plant Project

Law360, New York (February 21, 2013, 1:58 PM EST) -- India's federal government in a late Wednesday meeting signed off on a 140 billion-rupee ($2.6 billion) power generation project helmed by NTPC Ltd. and slated to go up in the eastern state of Jharkhand, nearly a decade and a half after plans first emerged.

The decision was the first approval granted by the newly formed Cabinet Committee on Investment, established in December to help evaluate major infrastructure projects. The committee cleared the 1,980-megawatt effort after a panel convened by the country's Ministry of Power recommended it...
