EU Eyes New Offshore Safety Regs In Deepwater Spill's Wake

Law360, New York (February 21, 2013, 2:21 PM EST) -- Fearful of a Deepwater Horizon-type disaster, the European Parliament and European Council moved closer Thursday to adopting legislation that would expand the coastal area over which the European Union has enforcement authority by more than 200 miles.

EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger hailed the bodies' political agreement over a proposed package of laws as a major step in enhancing the safety of offshore oil and gas production in the EU.
