DOI's Alaska Oil Reserve Plan Allows Pipeline Construction

Law360, New York (February 21, 2013, 6:09 PM EST) -- The Interior Department on Thursday finalized its plan to lease more than half of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, which will allow construction of oil and natural gas pipelines on the nearly 12 million acres open for development.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar issued a final record of decision that will allow development of 72 percent of economically recoverable oil in the reserve, while keeping Alaskan Native lands and key wildlife habitats off-limits.
