Watchdog Slams Gaps In EPA Oil, Gas Emissions Data

Law360, New York (February 22, 2013, 3:13 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has failed to collect reliable data on emissions from domestic oil and natural gas production even as the industry has experienced unprecedented growth, according to a report released Thursday by the agency’s watchdog.

The EPA inspector general’s office found the agency has limited its data collection on pollutants associated with several key production processes and hasn’t developed a plan for improving how it measures oil and gas industry emissions.
