Encana, Chesapeake Accused Of Fixing Lease Bids

Law360, New York (February 22, 2013, 8:42 PM EST) -- NorthStar Energy LLC sued Encana Corp. and Chesapeake Energy Corp. in Michigan federal court Friday, alleging they broke antitrust laws by conspiring to rig the bidding process for oil and gas leases.

NorthStar says Encana and Chesapeake entered into an anti-competitive agreement that had the effect of forcing NorthStar to sell oil and gas leases — which included mineral rights that allowed for exploration and development of the Utica-Collingwood shale formations in northern Michigan — at less than fair prices.
