Sotomayor Blasts Texas Prosecutor's Race-Tinged Remark

Law360, New York (February 25, 2013, 2:56 PM EST) -- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Monday sharply criticized a Texas federal prosecutor for making what she called a "racially charged remark" while cross-examining an African-American defendant over his alleged role in a drug deal.

In an unusual move, Sotomayor issued a five-page statement to accompany the court's denial of Bongani Charles Calhoun's petition for certiorari.
