IP Jurisdiction Ruling Spurs Apple, Motorola Fed. Circ. Debate

Law360, New York (February 28, 2013, 6:20 PM EST) -- Apple Inc. and Motorola Mobility LLC squared off Wednesday over whether a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision about the proper jurisdiction for patent-related lawsuits means that an appeal in contract and antitrust litigation involving the companies cannot be heard by the Federal Circuit.

In a filing Tuesday, Motorola told the Federal Circuit that the high court's Feb. 20 Gunn v. Minton decision, which held that patent-related legal malpractice suits should be heard in state court, supports its position that the appellate court lacks jurisdiction over Apple's...
